MEET JOHNNY MERCER …
Johnny is running for office with a clear purpose: to build a local government that serves the MANY—not just the few. His story begins on his grandfather’s rhododendron farm, where he was raised by working-class parents who instilled deep in him the values of hard work, humility, and community.
His father was a contractor who built homes with his calloused hands. His mother was a school psychologist, dedicated to helping young people navigate life’s challenges with delicate compassion and care. Their example instilled in Johnny a deep respect for labor, education, and public service.
After his parents divorced, Johnny began spending weekends in and around Baltimore. This shift—from rural farmland to the heart of a working-class city—broadened his perspective and deepened his awareness of the challenges facing everyday families. In both places, he witnessed the struggles and the resilience of communities navigating poverty, disinvestment, and inequality. That experience would later become a driving force behind his activism.
When George Floyd was murdered in 2020, something shifted in Johnny. Like so many others, he felt the weight of that moment and the need for real, sustained action. Johnny began organizing protests across the DMV—not just as a reaction to injustice, but as a call to imagine something better. Through that work, Johnny discovered the power of collective action—and the limits of a political system that too often silences those without wealth or connections.
Johnny’s political vision is shaped by real-life experience—not party lines or empty rhetoric. He believes that everyone deserves a government that listens, understands, and fights for their needs. His campaign is grounded in the lived realities of working families, students, and everyday people too often left out of the conversation.
As a candidate, Johnny Mercer stands for equity, accountability, and bold, community-driven leadership. He knows that progress doesn’t come from the top down—it comes from the ground up. And he’s ready to bring that spirit to the halls of local government.
Johnny is running not to protect the status quo, but to challenge it. To reimagine what’s possible when we put people before profit, and community before politics as usual. He’s not in this race alone—he’s in it with all those who believe that our future should be fair, inclusive, and built by all of us, together.
