JOHNNY MERCER’S PLATFORM
THE BIG THREE …
Johnny Mercer believes that growth should serve the people—not overwhelm them. As Frederick County continues to expand, it's essential that development is guided by long-term planning, transparency, and a deep respect for the communities that already call this place home. Johnny supports smart investments in public infrastructure—including safer roads, expanded public transportation, and reliable broadband access—to ensure that all residents benefit from growth, not just developers. He advocates for policies that put local families first, hold developers accountable, and ensure that new projects come with the schools, roads, utilities, and green spaces our communities need to thrive.
RESPONSIBLE GROWTH & INFASTRUCTURE
FULLY FUNDED SCHOOLS & EDUCATION
Johnny is committed to building a future where every child in Frederick County receives a high-quality public education, regardless of their neighborhood or family income. He believes this begins with fully funding our schools—supporting teachers with fair pay, reducing overcrowded classrooms, and expanding access to mental health resources, vocational training, and special education services. Johnny also understands that education is about more than test scores—it's about nurturing a generation of critical thinkers, problem solvers, and engaged citizens. He will fight to ensure that our school system has the resources it needs to uplift every student, support every educator, and serve every family.
AGRICULTURAL PROTECTION & SMART LAND USE
Growing up on his grandfather’s rhododendron farm, Johnny Mercer developed a lifelong appreciation for Maryland’s agricultural roots. He understands that farmland is more than open space—it’s part of our local economy, our food system, and our cultural identity. Johnny is a strong advocate for preserving agricultural land, protecting clean water sources, and pushing back against unchecked suburban sprawl. He supports land use policies that prioritize long-term sustainability, smart zoning, and community-led development. By protecting our rural landscapes and encouraging responsible planning, Johnny will ensure Frederick County remains a place where both farmers and future generations can thrive.
